The garden comes to life

Posted by Jeanne on April 14, 2010

Curt and various volunteers have been working their butts off to get the garden going this year.  I have been doing my part by cooking for them (the fence-putter-uppers got pho, the diggers got egg/spinach/feta thing).

The first planting session – some onions, scallions, spinach, lettuces, broccoli, cauliflower.  And asparagus!

Those weird sea-anemone looking things are the asparagus root bulbs – we won’t get any this year, but maybe next year.  They are perennial – like tulips or daffodils, they will come back year after year.

These are the final plans for the garden – do not blame the scanner for the fact that it is illegible.  That is Curt’s handwriting.  In addition to those veggies listed above, there will be tomatoes, cucumbers, brussels sprouts, zucchini, peppers, radishes, potatoes, sweet potatoes, squash, chard, arugula, parsnips, carrots, beets, tons of herbs, sweet peas and green beans.

Every garden needs a gnome.

I can’t wait until the plants turn into food.

Hi, I’m pretty sure we’re your back neighbors. We have the basset hound and you have a greyhound, right? Say hi sometime!

Small world! Yes, we have a three-legged greyhound and a fat chihuahua. I know I have waved at your husband/boyfriend/roommate a LOT when I am out with the dogs. Too funny.
