Fridge Friday – Thai curry soup edition

Posted by Jeanne on July 1, 2011

This has  been a LONG week.  We had a big, fancy dinner on Monday night that I’ll blog about soon, and I went kayaking on Sunday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.  Oh, and running on Tuesday and Thursday.

Tired.  Very tired, and very much looking forward to a three-day weekend!

Want to see what’s in my fridge?

This picture brought to you by my phone as I was about to walk out the door.  You will notice much generic Costco Sport Drank again – working out in the summer makes you thirsty.

Chicken and noodles – we’re making this recipe for dinner tonight, but with greens from the garden.  Probably mostly chard and kale.  It’s an old favorite that I haven’t made in ages, and I’m really looking forward to it.

Happy Friday!

Fridge Friday: not in the fridge

Posted by Jeanne on June 17, 2011

The most interesting thing in the kitchen right now isn’t in the fridge.  What’s in the fridge:

Nothing too exciting.

Lots of little pears.  Might make a tart?

But these are the cool thing not in the fridge:

Mangosteens! I haven’t ever seen them fresh in Omaha before.  So I bought 4 pounds of them.

I told you I had a fruit problem, right?  We’re just eating those raw.  If there are any left by the end of the day today, I might try to come up with a cocktail.

Happy Friday!

Fridge Friday: Sugar rush edition

Posted by Jeanne on April 22, 2011

I am embarking on a project this weekend.  Two projects, really.

What’s in the fridge isn’t nearly as interesting

as what’s in the freezer.

Lots of ice cream!  A nice person representing Graeter’s ice cream offered to send me six pints to review.  I am not really in the position to refuse a lot of ice cream, so I said yes – look for a review in the next few days.

It’s difficult, but we have suffered through tasting lots of ice cream.  Just for you guys!

There will also be peepshi.  So that’s my weekend – review lots of ice cream and make peepshi.  Hopefully my teeth won’t rot out of my head…

Happy Friday!

Fridge Friday – boring training edition

Posted by Jeanne on April 8, 2011

I will cook something again.  Soon. But for now most of what I do is eat, sleep, and run and the sleeping and running are taking up so much time that there is very little cooking going on for the eating.

Want to see what’s in the fridge?

Not much of interest.

Sport drank.  The Costco version of Gatorade – it comes in a 24-pack of three flavors:  lemon-lime, fruit punch, and orange.  I tend to think of them as more colors than flavors though, yellow, red, and orange.  Hooray for orange, you consistent little bugger!

Pineapple.  I couldn’t stand the lack of fresh fruit any more.  So excited spring is almost here.

Maybe this weekend I’ll cook something!  One can only hope, right?

Fridge Friday – Pork-A-Palooza edition

Posted by Jeanne on March 25, 2011

Pork-a-palooza is tomorrrow!  This is what a fridge that contains ~180 empanadas and ~230 meatballs looks like.

Oh, and a double batch of Cuban pork hash – I’m really interested in trying that one.  It’s ground pork with onions and garlic, heavily spiced with cinnamon.  Very curious.

I’m just a little unclear where I’m going to put the coleslaw.

Hope to see you at Pork-A-Palooza tomorrow!

Fridge Friday (on Saturday) – exhaustion edition

Posted by Jeanne on March 19, 2011

I am seriously tired.

Did I mention on here that I am training for a half-marathon?  If not – I am training for a half-marathon on May 1st.  I’m doing it with Team in Training.  All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers, and especially my friends Mike, Jack, and Lacey who have been personally affected.

Anyway, so I am going to run 13.1 miles (in a row!) on Sunday, May 1st so there have been all these training runs in the meantime.  Yesterday we did a St. Patrick’s Day 5k instead of our normal training run.  It was fun.  We dressed up.

Aren’t we pretty?  And then I ran 3.1 miles, and then I went to the Lady Gaga concert, and then I dragged myself half-dead to work on Friday.  Yawn.

Anyway, so there has been a LOT of running, and a lot of working, and quite a bit of sleeping, and not much else.

Want to see what’s in our fridge?  Curt made it.

Leftover beef stew with Guinness, made for St. Patrick’s Day dinner.  Yummy.

Even if I was only home for 45 minutes to enjoy it.

Happy Saturday!  Enjoy the rest of the weekend – I’m down in Kansas City with my friend Mike, watching the first thunderstorm of the year.

Fridge Friday twenty

Posted by Jeanne on February 25, 2011

Where has this week gone?  Holy crap.  I missed a whole week of blogging!

I promise to write about Friendgiving soon.  And there are some interesting articles coming in the next few weeks, I swear.  But for now you’ll have to forgive my slackitude.

Want to see what’s in my fridge?  This is probably part of the reason there has been no blogging.

Not a very good picture but… it’s mostly leftovers.  A hodgepodge of components of different dishes, some of which need to be used (the tofu) and some of which will probably be tossed (the three tablespoons of gravy…).

This is to make Joshuwaaaaaaaaah jealous:

The last of the oxtail stew from Monday night.  Over Parmesan polenta.

And this was my favorite thing tonight:

Chocolate oatmeal chocolate chip cookies.  Curt made them.

They’re healthy, because they contain oatmeal.  Just ask McDonald’s.

Happy Friday!

Fridge Friday nineteen

Posted by Jeanne on February 18, 2011

Friendgiving is this Saturday! And that means…

That the fridge is full of turkey.

One turkey, one turkey breast actually.  Turkeys are hard to find in February but we made it happen.

Happy Friday and happy Friendgiving!

Fridge Friday Eighteen (on Saturday)

Posted by Jeanne on February 12, 2011

My, but I have been a bad blogger.  I will blame February, for it is the most miserable month of all and makes me want to crawl into a hole and do nothing but sleep.  Also, eat cake.

But!  Things are looking up!  I ran 4 miles outside last night because it was FINALLY above freezing for the first time in forever.  Also I am finally back to my pre-Christmas weight.  I be skinny any day now.

Want to see what’s in my fridge?

Look, it’s a sweet potato Curt dropped and broke!

Last night we turned it into fries and then had chili-cheese fries.  For dinner.

And then this morning I ran another 4 mile to make up for it.  And to fight cancer.

Happy Saturday!

Fridge Friday the Seventeenth

Posted by Jeanne on January 14, 2011

The week is over.  There was snow, and there was a hell of a lot of shoveling, and there was work and work and work and work.

Oh, and I signed up to do the Lincoln Half Marathon on May 1st.  I joined Team In Training to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  If I can complete a half marathon, anything is possible.  Watch for unicorns.

Want to see what’s in my fridge?

Lots of stuff.

Fresh bacon!  Cured from leftover pork belly from the cassoulet, but unsmoked.  For tomorrow morning – Ruhlman suggests sauteing it slowly.

Happy Friday everyone.
